Divorce Terms - O

OBJECTION - A verbal protest by a lawyer when something inappropriate is presented during the deposition or the trial.

OBLIGEE - A person who is owed money or property according to a judgment.

OBLIGOR - A person who owes money or property according to a judgment.

ORDER - Courts ruling on a specific issue.

ORDER AFTER HEARING - An order signed by a judge issued after a hearing.

ORDER OF EXAMINATION - A questioning under oath in which a debtor is questioned about their specific assets. 

ORDER OF PROTECTION - Usually applies in a case where a spouse is harassing the other. The order usually states that if a spouse does not abide by court guidelines they could be arrested, and face possible jail times. 

ORDER TO SHOW CAUSE - An order that requires a party in a civil action to make an appearance in court.
