Divorce without someone knowing

Question:

My husband and I have been married for 2 years and it's not working out. Can I get a divorce from him in Tennessee without him knowing it. He's a OTR truck driver and doesn't want to give me one? (TN)

State:
Tennessee
Answer:

Both parties in a divorce have the right to know what the legal status of their marriage is and you will be required to serve your spouse with notification of your intent to divorce. Even if your spouse cannot be located you will still have to make the minimum legally required attempts to reach him. This can involve service in person, service by mail or publication of the notice. It will be very difficult to divorce someone by surprise no matter where you live. - The Divorce.com Team Wendy Jaffe and Divorce.com can only provide general information about divorce.
