Divorce Lawyers

Question:

Do you have to have a lawyer when you get divorce. I want a simple divorce. There are no kids involved just property. What do you recommend???

State:
Kansas
Answer:

You do not have to obtain the services of a lawyer to get divorced in Kansas (or most states), it is just easier if you do. It is also a lot more expensive. A "simple" divorce without kids but involving property to divide could actually be very simple if your spouse agrees to the terms you come up with. You could prepare your own papers and come to your own agreements in a no-fault action without the help of an attorney if there are no disputes. Check with your County Court or an online legal forms service to see what papers you will need to complete a divorce in Kansas. That would be the least expensive way to go. - The Divorce.com Team
