How long do you have to service Divorce Petition Papers once they were approved by the courts in the state of Maryland?
I am not a Maryland attorney, but I did some legal research to find the answer to your question. According to my research, the "Writ of Summons" which the court issued when you filed your initial papers is valid for 60 days. In other words, you would have to complete service within 60 days from the time that the summons was issued by the court. (Check your Writ to find the date it was issued.) If you are unable to complete service within that time, you will have to ask the Clerk of Court to issue a new Writ of Summons. If you are having a difficult time locating your spouse, there are alternative methods of service available. Hope this helps! Wendy Jaffe
