    Question:

My wife and I filed for divorce in Feb. 09. We were advised to file bankruptcy pre-divorce. Bankruptcy is taking a long time, and now both our Attorneys seem mad at us.

My question in a nutshell-since we are getting along amicably now and think we may able divorce on our own-can we fire our Attorneys and change from a contested divorce to uncontested, and possibly use Legal Zoom (or similar) and move this along with no more Attorney fees?

    State:
    Connecticut
    Answer:

If your attorneys "seem mad at you" it might be time to get new attorneys - or as you suggested - no attorneys at all. The only people who get rich when spouses argue are attorneys. If you can get along, you might save some money working together to hammer out the terms of your divorce agreement, even if you keep your lawyers on the job. - The Divorce.com Team
