Self-prepared divorce

Question:

Do the final papers of a divorce document have to be done in ink?

State:
Tennessee
Answer:

Yes. The instructions for all divorce forms usually include the requirement to use black ink only. This is common to most legal documents. The use of pencil or ink in any color other than black can invalidate the forms. Using red, blue or purple ink might be legible, but it would be incorrect. If you need to make changes, use a pencil at first and then go over your work with a black pen before you submit it. Typing (in black ink) is also acceptable. - The Divorce.com Team
